When it comes to putting together your own soft play space, there are many style options you can either put together yourself or purchase as a set of pieces all together. Additionally, you can get as simple or elaborate with your space as you want. It really all depends on how much of your own creativity you want to put into it!
Hopefully we can show you an overall glimpse of these options and possibilities and at least give you a general idea of which direction you might want to go with your own space.
Soft Play Space Sizes
First, let’s talk size. Your soft play set up can be as simple or as big and elaborate as you want. It could be as simple as a single slide piece or a slide with a couple of other blocks to create depth or slightly more interest. The first image is an example if this.
Your soft play set up can get as elaborate in size as you want as well! And not just in width and how much ground space it will take up but also in height. Of course, height might depend on the age
group your soft play space is geared towards. Toddlers
can’t necessarily climb to the same height as your 3 and 4-year-old kids can. Or maybe your space will be something that your current toddlers are meant to grow into.
Deciding on the width and height that your play space will take up is your first step before buying your set up!
Do it Yourself or Prepackaged?
Secondly, you would need to decide whether you wanted to pull soft play pieces together yourself or purchase a prepackaged concept. There are a few options you can go with. For example, you could either buy a soft play set with all the pieces already packaged together or you can piece a soft play space together yourself.
Prepackaged Soft Play
A lot of school suppliers will sell you a soft play set up that they have prepackaged together. You can also find these prepackaged concepts on Amazon. Of course Google makes it easy these days to find private suppliers as well.
Do It Yourself Soft Play
Then there’s the concept of buying your soft play pieces and putting together a soft play space out of your own creativity. Again, there are websites out there that will sell you separate soft play pieces. For example, you can buy just one block, or a single slide or other fun shapes. The neat aspect about this is that you get to pick your colors and/or stick with a particular theme. Although it may end up costing you a bit more, this option can be a great satisfaction to the most artistic-minded of us!
What Style of a Play Space?
I would say the main differences we’ve seen in style for soft platy spaces have to do with color and shapes.
Soft Play Shapes
To over summarize, there are blocks and there are curvy shapes. The basic block shapes are the easiest to find. Other than block-shaped pieces, more complex pieces are harder to find. If you like hunting though, then you might have fun tracking down some non-block shaped soft play pieces. The nice thing about a block set up is that you can rearrange the pieces and create new shapes and adventures for kids. Changing up themes within the alternative shapes is a little bit trickier but very doable with a little creative inspiration.
The image here is an example of a soft play space we have that incorporates other non-block-like shapes.
Soft Play Colors
Knowing what kind of colors you would want in your play space is an important factor to determine before purchasing your set up. It is common to see bright and bold primary color themes in the soft play world. But there are also more calming earthy color themes.
If you are looking for a soft play space for a child’s room for example, is there a theme in that bedroom or playroom that you would want to cater to? Does that room have a forest or nature theme for example? Then maybe the bright and bold primary colors wouldn’t flow with the room as well as earth tones would.
As psychology has discussed, colors influence people. They can create a calm environment or a more energetic environment. Keep this in mind when deciding on your color scheme!
Hopefully this blog will help you get your mind started on what to consider when putting together your own soft play space! It really is a great concept for toddlers and young kids as far as safe fun. That’s why we are Bambino Soft Play are all about it! Enjoy the process!
